The citizen

In mid-February 1941 we recruits were ordered to attend a lecture given by a Party speaker wearing a brown uniform. I found a note about it in my diary that today fills me with a certain degree of gratification:
Yesterday afternoon, lecture in the ‘Kapitol’ in Schleswig. Didn’t like it much. Too loudmouthed. I would have preferred to have a few more facts. Too mysterious. After all, we are not members of the ‘chosen race’. Little more than exaggerated racial thinking.
